Elite Sport Science are experienced with the unique demands of Motorsport. To aid athletes in their training to achieve split-second decision-making with a strong, powerful, lightweight physique; we offer each athlete a holistic, integrated and bespoke package. We can tailor a performance solution for any rider, using our expertise in the following areas:
Mobility and rehabilitation
First and foremost, and athlete needs to be able to train effectively without exacerbating existing injuries. Through a thorough movement screening and directing your soft-tissue therapy, we are able to help you train in the most effective way possible.
Performance Psychology can help an athlete to improve their skill acquisition, enhance their mental toughness and resilience, and is at the heart of training for split-second decision-making. In Motorsport, every thousandth of a second counts. Leon Haslam found this out during his recent 2nd and 1st place finishes in Thailand - which so easily could have been a double victory:
“In race one, I unfortunately made a mistake and ran across the grass but luckily I felt like I had a wide enough margin and I was able to rejoin the pack and finish second in the final dash by just a few thousandths... I started race two even more motivated to win.”
Already part of the way there, a bit more rehearsal of mental strategies will no doubt help Leon focus his fearsome determination even more effectively. His opposition are in for a real fight.
Nutrition – getting the physique for Motorsport
Riders need to carry as little excess weight as possible – this includes their own body-fat and excess muscle. Through the use of DXA scanning equipment and nutritional monitoring, we help athletes maintain training quality and performance, even when reducing body-mass and unwanted muscle.
Physiology and conditioning
The types of fitness needed by a marathon runner and a sprinter are very different. In the same way, a rider must meet very specific criteria. Through the use of physiological testing and performance screenings, we help identify riders’ biggest areas for improvement – helping you train harder AND smarter. A personalised training plan can then help increase specific areas of fitness, for example, aerobic capacity, anaerobic power or the core strength needed to stay stable, in-control… and upright on the bike!
